NON-STOP BBQ & LIVE MUSIC OVER 2 AWESOME DAYS
In 2018, the Independence Fire Department needed to raise money to purchase new equipment. After countless fundraising suggestions, the two-day Smokin’ On the Tracks BBQ Cook Off was born.
Teams return each May to fight for bragging rights over Chicken, Brisket, & Ribs! Local and national crews from across the South show up each year to make our growing cook-off into what it is today. Everyone is ready to take home the crown title of BBQ Grand Champion. While others steady compete for lots of other prizes and cash pay-outs too. The competition is fierce but friendly!
Smokin’ On the Tracks is a free event open to the public with plenty to do: Live music, food vendors, arts & crafts booths, and even a local farmers market. Teams start cooking Friday night with a chicken wing competition. Saturday, we start off with our Kids Que Division. Adult teams turn in Chicken, Ribs, and Brisket at the end of the day. Anyone can be a judge on the tracks! Just find a fireman and they will be glad to assist you.
Bring the whole family out for some good entertainment, fun in the sun, & a taste of Real Southern BBQ. Help support the fine men and women who tirelessly give of their time to provide Fire Protection Services to the wonderful Town of Independence. Join in the experience on May 8th & 9th 2020!

Our mission for this event is to purchase up to date lifesaving equipment for our volunteer firefighters.
The yearly budget is only enough to cover daily operations, leaving no extra money for the department to purchase our volunteers proper gear and equipment they need to do the job.
In addition to raising money for our volunteers, each year we pick a local non-profit organization to share a portion of our proceeds with. A percentage of this year’s proceeds will benefit the American Legion Post 109. The American Legion is the nation's largest wartime veterans service organization founded on the values, contributions, and sacrifices of those who answered the nation's call to arms.
With your help we can assure our local community needs are met while also experiencing two days of good music & great BBQ!
